Dr. Ahmed
Dr Ahmed is an ophthalmic surgeon by profession with keen interest in various forms of art. He has travelled all over the world and never missed an opportunity to visit museums, galleries, and art exhibitions.
Photography has been his passion and hobby since high school days. He is a
member of the Federation of International Association for Photography (FIAP) and
the Bahrain Photography Club, and has participated in numerous local exhibitions
over the years, as well as FIAP organized events around the world, including
Turkey, Greece, South Korea, China and South Africa.
In 2000, he held a solo photography exhibition at Bahrain’s national
Salmaniya Hospital, showcasing the History of Ophthalmology in Bahrain. The
exhibition included pictures he had taken from 1976 during his employment at the
hospital, documenting the hospital’s transformation over a span of three decades,
and is now a permanent exhibition.
More recently he has embarked upon the field of sculptures, in response to a
calling to create abstract forms and spaces. He enjoys experimenting with a variety
of materials and forms, including different types of wood and patina bronze. His
works are characterized by simple shapes and forms, and empty spaces. He has
also produced large outdoor garden sculptures made of steel or wood, painted with
bold colors to pop out in contrast with the greenery of the outdoors.
“My goal is to capture the attention of the viewer, and stir their imagination by
raising questions, and leaving them to interpret the work on an individual and
personal level.
He is a member of the Bahrain Art Society, and has taken part in
international sculpture conferences, including Art Miami and Art Basel. In 2015,
he started exhibiting his works in various local and international exhibitions
organized by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the Ministry of
Information, and Bahrain Artists Across Borders (BAAB). One of the most recent
exhibitions was at the Grand Palais in Paris, where he joined 17 Bahraini artists as
part of Bahrain Art Week in September 2018.
I am an ophthalmic surgeon by profession with keen interest in various forms of art. I have travelled all over the world and never missed an opportunity to visit museums and art exhibitions.
I have used various media and material to make sculptures. I have produced large sculptures for garden and outdoor display made of steel or wood. For indoor I have produced sculptures made of various kinds of wood and cast patina bronze.
My works are characterized by simplicity and modernity that invites everyone to touch and feel the sculptures. My pursuit is to produce better quality works that make people feel joy and delight, through viewing them.
I aspire to tell a story that can be understood anywhere in the world. In my own case, the story always has to do with beauty, inspiring the viewer to touch and feel the art work. It is a never-ending challenge, to be able to do better work. The viewer really matters to me. My goal is to capture his/her attention and to inspire thought and raise questions. The sculpture exists through evoking the feelings, thoughts and imagination of the viewer..
